Joan Boomsma brings more than 20 years experience in the health care field and executive management expertise to her position as Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. Boomsma is a Pulmonary and Critical Care physician who spent several years in a full-time academic practice at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. She has held numerous physician leadership positions, including Intensive Care Unit Director, Fellowship Program Director, Clinical Practice Director and Associate Chief of Service.

For the past several years, Dr. Boomsma has served in hospital senior management positions, focusing on hospital and medical staff quality improvement initiatives, care management and physician-hospital relationships. These initiatives have led to recognitions from the Lincoln Foundation for Performance Excellence and HealthGrades.

She is Past-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago. Dr. Boomsma is also a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Critical Care Medicine and the Institute of Medicine of Chicago. Additionally, she has served as President of the Chicago Thoracic Society and co-chaired the Illinois Asthma Partnership task force, among other chairmanships.

Dr. Boomsma’s professional affiliations include the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American College of Physicians, the American College of Physician Executives and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
